On July 16 the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church — The Most Rev. Michael B. Curry — and several other co-consecrators ordained the Rev. Daniel Gutierrez as the 16th Bishop of Pennsylvania.
It has been almost twenty years since we ordained a new diocesan bishop. The bishop represents the visible unity of the church. Our diocese became the first in the nation when the Archbishop of Canterbury in England ordained the Rt. Rev. William White to serve here. The diocese now consists of the city of Philadelphia and the four surrounding Pennsylvania counties. Over the years four other dioceses were created in the state, but the original region retains the title of the Diocese of Pennsylvania. We celebrate the beginning of the next chapter in our church’s life.
